Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ's
Listed below is information about therapy in order to make the best choice for yourself and your family. If you have more questions, just ask.

1. What will we do in therapy?

We will talk about difficulties you are struggling with and work towards finding resolutions of the concerns brought to therapy.  In counseling, you are in the driver's seat by determining your own goals, desired changes, and pace of treatment. You will be supported and guided in an empathetic, therapeutic and safe environment while you address your personal challenges and complete your own goals. You will learn to develop positive, healthy approaches to your problems and learn to make better decisions to handle life stressors and relationships. Our approach is solution focused and goal oriented based on tested theories and methods of change. We will challenge clients as much as they feel comfortable in taking steps to complete their goals.

2. What will I have to do in therapy?

As a client, hopefully you will actively participate in therapy by communicating your feelings and keeping your therapist fully informed about any changes in your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. In addition, you determine your treatment goals with the help of your therapist. It helps to desire to change or consider other alternatives towards problems.
3. Could anything bad happen because of therapy?

Sometimes therapy can be uncomfortable due to the subject matter and the intensity of emotions especially if you have never talked about these issues before. At first, things may seem worse because of possible increased emotional discomfort, stress, and conflict in interpersonal relationships, but in the long run things will be better.

4. What will I notice when I am getting better?

There are several indicators that will be used to gauge your progress such as your subjective report, the therapist's observations, your level of functioning, and the concrete, measurable treatment goals. In addition, the rating of your symptoms at beginning of treatment, during, and upon termination will be compared. All therapists at LG Counseling, PLLC will conduct themselves in accordance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, guidelines and ethical codes of conduct including client privacy regarding all interactions including session discussions, records and any other information protected by law. However, there are exceptions to your privacy with regards to sessions and records where your therapist may be obligated to disclose such information due to certain situations. Examples of these situations are listed below.

There are many different types of therapy approaches and treatment modalities. Please verbalize this concern to your therapist that way treatment goals, approach, or other treatment options can be discussed and altered if needed. By not verbalizing these feelings, hurts yourself, limits the effectiveness of your therapy, and how the therapist can intervene.

We are available during normal business hours, by phone or email. If it is after hours, contact 911 or visit your nearest emergency room.

8. Can I attend marital counseling even if my spouse doesn't want to attend?

Yes, it only takes one person to create a change in a relationship. However, it is recommended both parties to attend.
9.  What is the significance of the pomegranate theme?

Pomegranates throughout history have inspired people in many ways, as observed in a variety of well known literature, paintings, and religious texts. The fruit has, and continues to symbolize fruitfulness, knowledge, learning, wisdom, and mankind's beliefs and desires about death, rebirth, eternal life, fertility, marriage, abundance, and prosperity. Pomegranates also have numerous health benefits: they contain very high levels of vitamins and minerals; can lower LDL levels (bad cholesterol) and blood pressure; can help prevent Alzheimers Disease; can strengthen the immune system; can slow down the aging process; can help with weight loss; and they can improve the youthfulness of your skin.

Untimely Cancellation & No Show Policy

If you are unable to attend your scheduled session, please contact our office as soon as possible to avoid any fees associated with an untimely cancellation or no show.  Failure to give at least 24-hours notice of cancellation of an appointment that is scheduled Tuesday THRU Saturday is considered an "untimely cancellation." If an appointment is scheduled on a Monday notice must be given by the previous Friday before 5 pm that the appointment needs to be canceled in order to not be considered an “untimely cancellation.”  A “no show” is when the client / authorized representative does not cancel nor attends the appointment.

Credit Card Policy

In accordance with our Untimely Cancellation and No Show Policy, LG Counseling retains all current and future scheduled clients' credit card information on file. The client's credit card will not be charged until service is rendered, or in the event that the client has an untimely cancellation or no-show without sufficient cancellation notice. This information is strictly confidential and highly secure.
In the event that a client fails to pay for services rendered and/or untimely cancellation/no show, every attempt will be made to collect past-due amounts. After 60 days, past due accounts will be turned over to collections.
