Ruba Afifi, LPC Intern

I work with adults and adolescents, individuals, couples, and groups, specializing in Trauma, PTSD, Depression, Anxiety, Marital and Premarital, Sexual Abuse, Domestic Violence, Grief and Loss, and Life Purpose Issues.

I am trained in EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) which helps relieve stress from traumatic events. Through this process, we get to the foundation of the negative core cognitions and beliefs, and work with the positive cognitions and resolutions.

I have a passion for helping others achieve their desired quality of life, and I counsel clients to aid them in understanding and overcoming personal, social, and behavioral problems. You deserve to live the quality of life you want to, and I am here to help you achieve that. Throughout your healing and journey, we will work together to help you accomplish your goals, building a more satisfying and meaningful life.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor-Intern. I earned my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX and obtained by Bachelors at the University of Houston. Before joining LG Counseling I was a clinical fellow at the Interface Samaritan Counseling Center and was a part-time counselor and clinical intern at the Houston Area Women's Center.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences.

Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal.

EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. The brain’s information processing system naturally moves toward mental health. If the system is blocked or imbalanced by the impact of a disturbing event, the emotional wound festers and can cause intense suffering. Once the block is removed, healing resumes. Using the detailed protocols and procedures learned in EMDR therapy training sessions, clinicians help clients activate their natural healing processes.

EMDR is an evidenced based therapy for the treatment of trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and is recommended by the World Health Organization and Department of Veteran’s Affairs. In addition, EMDR is used to treat:
